Our founder, David Boose entered the decorative lighting business in 1969 as a warehouse worker for Hali-Specht’s Lighting, a retail chain of lighting fixture and accessories showrooms throughout Southern California. The five years that followed included retail sales and general office experience plus eventual responsibilities at their main Beverly Hills showroom running the promotional goods assembly division. An invitation to join Ever-Ready Lighting, another retail chain followed in the capacity of general manager in their showrooms located in the City of Orange and Santa Monica California.
Spectrum Lighting was formed in 1978 when David was offered an opportunity to become an independent Manufacturers Representative covering Southern California for a number of middle to high end decorative lighting fixture manufacturing companies. His market was the retail showrooms, but that changed with David’s 1986 addition of a hospitality sales division to include the Las Vegas market.
The caveat was that as the hospitality business grew, the companies that were being represented expressed less interest in custom production as they were beginning to import completed products from off shore. This change in domestic production capabilities is what prompted the metamorphosis in Spectrum Lighting from a sales organization into a manufacturing company.
Those first few years were a trial of subcontracting production to a handful of Los Angeles area metal shops which eventually necessitated the need for better control and our first eight employees in a 6,000 square foot building in Huntington Beach, California. Supplying fixtures for the new construction of Mandalay Bay and a remodel at the MGM Grand Las Vegas helped to support the 2001 purchase of our current 31,000 square foot facility in Santa Fe Springs, California. This footprint was increased by an additional 15,000 square feet that was purchased in 2007 to coincide with Spectrum Lighting’s acquisition of The Charles Lamp Co.
Today, Spectrum lighting is the innovative source of custom lighting fixtures and lamps for the hospitality industry which include, the world’s premier resorts, casinos, hotels and restaurants.
